Requires 3 years continuous stay in Spain, a job offer contract of at least 1 year, and either family ties or a social integration report from local authorities. Renewable annually.
2. Labor Roots-Based
Requires 2 years continuous stay in Spain and proof of a previous employment relationship lasting at least 6 months (typically via labor inspection or court decision). Shorter waiting period but more difficult to document.
3. Family Roots-Based
Direct family link with Spanish citizens or legal residents: parent of a Spanish child, child of an original Spanish citizen, spouse or child of a legal resident. No minimum prior stay required.
4. Training Roots-Based
New category requiring 2 years continuous stay in Spain plus commitment to enroll in formal education or professional training. Must complete the training program to maintain status.
5. Documentation Required
- Valid passport.
- Proof of continuous stay (empadronamiento, dated receipts, medical appointments, etc.).
- Clean criminal record certificate.
- Any additional documents specific to each roots-based category.
