1. Description
This visa allows holders to reside in Spain as “digital nomads” for up to one year, working exclusively for foreign employers. Self-employed applicants may undertake Spanish projects only if those activities represent no more than 20% of their total workload. After the initial year, you may apply for a longer-term residence permit.
2. Official Form
Main applicants file Form MI-T (“Application for Residence for International Mobility”), selecting the “international teleworker” option. Family members use Form MI-F. Submission can be online via the Ministry’s electronic headquarters (if already in Spain) or in person at the consulate.
3. Fee Model
Pay the residence fee via Form 790 – Code 038 (approx. €73). Payment can be made online (NRC) or by bank transfer/cash per consular instructions. Consular visa fees may also apply.
4. Required Documentation
- Valid passport.
- Two passport-size photographs.
- Apostilled & sworn-translated criminal record certificate (last 5 years).
- Declaration of no criminal record in Spain or other countries of residence.
- Employment contract or remote work agreement with a foreign company.
- Proof of company operation ≥ 1 year and relationship ≥ 3 months:
- Employees: employer’s authorization to telework from Spain.
Freelancers: contracts with foreign clients specifying remote work. - University degree / vocational qualification, or ≥ 3 years’ experience.
- Economic means (income/savings above IPREM recommendations).
- Public or private health insurance valid in Spain.
- Completed & signed national visa application form (for consular application).
6. Key Requirements
- Highly qualified professional (education or experience).
- Ongoing relationship ≥ 3 months with foreign employer/clients and authorization to telework.
- Economic solvency (recommended €2,000–€3,000/month or equivalent savings).
- Apostille and sworn translation to Spanish where required.
- Comprehensive health insurance coverage in Spain.
- No criminal record in the last 5 years.
