1. Description
You apply from your country of origin via a national visa at the Spanish consulate. Once granted, the visa allows you to reside in Spain for 1 year. Renewal (extension) is requested in Spain using the same procedure.
2. Official Form
Complete Form EX-01 (“Application for Non-Lucrative Temporary Residence”) in duplicate, signed and submitted together with your national visa application.
3. Fee Model
Pay the fee via Form 790 – Code 052 (approx. €10.72). The consulate may charge a national visa fee (€60–80). Once in Spain, the TIE issuance fee is paid via Form 790 – Code 012 (approx. €16).
4. Required Documentation
- National visa application form (completed).
- Form EX-01 for non-lucrative residence.
- Two passport-size photos.
- Valid passport (original + copy), with ≥ 1 year validity and ≥ 2 blank pages.
- Proof of economic means: documents showing resources ≥ 400% IPREM for the principal (≈ €2 400 / month; €28 800 annually). For each additional family member add 100% IPREM.
- Comprehensive health insurance (public or private) valid in Spain, without copayments, for ≥ 1 year.
- Apostilled & translated criminal record certificate (last 5 years).
- Medical certificate stating no diseases of public health risk.
- Proof of residence in the consular district (e.g. utility bill, rental contract).
- Receipt of payment for Form 790 – Code 052 (in two copies).
5. Key Requirements
- No work or professional activity allowed during the permit.
- Demonstrate economic solvency for yourself (400% IPREM) and your family (100% IPREM each) for at least one year.
- Insurance must cover all contingencies without copayments.
- No criminal record in Spain or previous countries of residence.
- Must reside more than 183 days/year in Spain to facilitate renewal.
