1. Description

The Social Security Number is a unique identifier required for registration with the Spanish Social Security system. It enables contributions and gives entitlement to healthcare and benefits.

2. Official Form

Complete and submit Form TA.1 (“Solicitud de Número de Afiliación”) via the Social Security Electronic Office or at your local Tesorería General de la Seguridad Social (TGSS).

3. Fee Model

This service is free of charge. No administrative fee applies for issuance of the Social Security Number.

4. Required Documentation

  • Completed TA.1 form (original + copy).
  • Valid passport or NIE (original + photocopy).
  • Certificate of census registration (empadronamiento).
  • Proof of employment contract or self-employment registration.
  • Power of attorney if applying via representative.

5. Key Requirements

  • Appointment at the TGSS office or via the electronic portal.
  • Identity verification in person with original documents.
  • Ensure your NIE is active and valid at the time of application.
